A few hours ago, I got to think about the sales period.
This is the sacred period for all the fashion minded women on the planet.
They run on their Manolo Blahnik shoes to the shops, rush to the shelves, racks and they even fight for a bag. Yes, January is ‘fashion-war-month’.
But, fortunately, here is a solution to avoid all that trouble and a bloody battle. It is called ‘methodology’.
If everybody would use an action plan or a different manner, there would be less to fight about.
What makes it that people run around like a big mess and moreover, create a mess?
They have no plan, no structure, of course. You cannot even buy a bargain at ease.
You’re under pressure, no under big pressure. When you need one clothes hanger, you get five going into the ground. What’s the fun about all that hurry and noise? If you don’t think about the hilarious situations, nothing! So, time to get some structure…
Right now, we use the ‘trial and error’ method. We take a big pile of clothes and we try it on, piece by piece. Then we make a ‘yep, that’s my style’-pile, ‘no, my ass looks to fat in it’-pile and ‘maybe, try it on again’-pile. This takes too much time. Not a calamity for us (besides the hot flashes), but what about all the other women? They are waiting in lines to get into the fitting rooms, sweaty and thirsty with hundreds of pieces in their hands. No, we need to change, not only for ourselves, but also for the ones that shop with us, so the nation.
Algorithms and heuristics are the solution! I know, I know this sounds like: ‘Oh my God, too much mathematics for me, I stop reading this blog’. No,you don’t, because it’s getting really really interesting!
Heuristics have much more power than ‘trial & error’. They can open your mind in places you never knew they existed! If we go shopping with our girls, we should better divide the different departments of the shop.
With this method, you do not only see the store quickly, but you also build up confidence with your girlfriends. Sometimes, you even buy things your friend recommended you, even though it is completely out of your style and you wouldn’t dare to buy it on your own. So you get two times a ‘win-win’ situation.
If it is so easy to solve problems with the methodology, why not try it on relationships?
There is such a thing, called the PDCA (Plan Do Check Adjust) – circle. If I may say so, a massive invention! Suppose you are on a first date and crazy in love.. You usually get the following symptoms: heart poundings, throat thickened, absolutely cannot swallow… Then, it could be very efficient to use the circular technique, to see if he’s also into you. You ask questions to your date and tell him things about you and see how he anticipates. Search for non-verbal communication! When he reacts exactly the way you want, you will be tempted to talk more about your subject than when he is insensible and rude. This ladies, is efficiency.
But of course, you’ll need a combination of techniques to get this all going. But more important is thinking about the way you think. After all, are we efficient? When do you use methodology?
When does it get you the right result? Does methodology decide our love life?
If I may be honest to that last question… I think it’s a crazy little thing called faith that decides our lives!
